On Friday morning we made our way to Chiquitines. It is not too far away but does take along time. Medardo actually took us on the outskirts of town next to the mountains to miss some traffic. It still took about 40 minutes to get there. Once we got there we signed off that she is our responsiblity economically, medically and all other aspects. We also found out that our meeting with the defender of minors (ICBF) which will start the legal process, is next Wednesday at 9am and then we go and tour the orphanage at 2:30pm. Then came Kayella. There were a ton of people that had to come in and say goodbye and she is a very special child to them. It was very emotional for everyone in there including us. Once that was complete, everyone left the room and said congratulations. We do have video that we are working on uploading and will get the link to you as soon as we have it.
Once we were done, we put her in the Ergo baby carrier (that is her carseat for now since in Colombia, you don't use carseats...eeeekkk!) and got on the road with Medardo. The drive back was fun, we just stared at her and took lots of photos. She got excited everytime a motorcycle would drive past us. She wanted to fall asleep so bad but refused. We also learned that she likes to be kissed on the bridge of her nose, she will laugh and smile. She is very ticklish also and when she is playing, she will even laugh if she accidently tickles herself.
Once we got back here, we had a bottle and then took a nap. She napped through a whole Skype session with Grandma & Danielle. She had many more people waiting to Skype with her but decided she was exhausted, as well as us. We were able to get some video of her playing on the floor. We tried some baby food but she wasn't having it, she is actually eating it for the first time for us right now as I type. She napped again in the afternoon for about 2 hours (we woke her up) and then had dinner with us, a bath, bottle and down for the night, so we thought. She slept for a bit (maybe 1.5 hours) and woke up cause she pooped! Yay...Ted got to change that one :) She decided it was a good time after that to stay up and play, we were wiped though. She ended up falling asleep finally around 11pm and slept all the way to 6:30am this morning. Not bad for being in a new place. We went down for breakfast and she was exhausted again by 9ish so she laid down again and slept until 11:30 and that is where it brings us to now eating babyfood.
We like to think that our first 24 hours have been great and have only heard her fuss a tiny bit. Usually if you mix the bottle in front of her she gets mad and fusses a bit. When she wakes up also she doesn't cry, just lays there and smacks her lips. We can hear her here but when we get home we will definitely be picking up a monitor.
Magnolia (our interpretor) should be feeling better next week and is planning on joining us for our meetings on Wednesday. We are also going to have her take us to pick out a basptism gown for Kayella. She is excited to meet us and she wants to see Kayella!
