We had our first visit today with the adoption house. It was a bit difficult being so close to Kayella, but not getting to see her. This visit was to go over her medical and social history, and was very informative. We found out that she is doing very well, she's up to 16.5lbs and 27 inches, so she has grown a little more since our last update. She does have a case of pink eye, her second round already, so we do have to get drops for her. We also found out during the meeting that her birth mother had written a letter to Kayella and us, and had also made a necklace for her that we were able to have them read to us and see the necklace. We feel very fortunate that we have so much information and these few extra special items so she can have that connection. After talking to some of the other families at the hotel it sounds like it is pretty rare to have this much. Needless to say it was a very emotional visit.
The ride home was also a little exciting. Today is the one day of the year that no private vehicles are allowed on the streets of Cali, so traffic was pretty light, since it was only buses and taxis. Our taxi driver, a very nice old man named Medardo got pulled over by the police for making an illegal left turn. He managed to talk himself out of it though, something tells me it had something to do with us in the back seat.
When we got back to the hotel we found out that the staff can just order anything we need for her (formula, diapers, wipes, etc) and have it delivered to the hotel, which is pretty nice... and cheap, we got a pack of 50 diapers, a pack of 80 wipes, and 2 cans of formula all for $43 USD.
Tomorrow we will head out at 10am to get to the adoption house by 11am to finally receive our baby girl, we are so excited. We will be taking lots of pictures and video, so look for that soon.
